It might feel like company but its all reactive action if you get targetted while someone's on the phone with you. What are they gonna do for you in that moment? Who knows what's safest, there's conflicting advice. I call my mum when ever im walking anywhere on my own. Especially since i got mugged a few years ago. As i was in the phone to my mum when it happened she lives about 90 miles away but she was still able to call the police for me and help me cope through the ordeal. Kept talking to me until some lovely strangers helped me and other family members could get to me and the police.
