I still maintain that we do, in fact, have a *responsibility* to not participate in such practices. Also, it's not entirely like my abortion comparison above in that, increased access to legalized abortion tends to be associated with *lowering* the need for and rate of *either* legal or illegal abortions (although that relationship is probably co-related and not causal, since increased access to abortion is generally accompanied by increased access to family planning and education ... which are far more rationally the causal factors). It is *difficult* to see, in this case, how keeping this practice legal would in fact lower its legal use.
